Morning Scepticism: Pyrrhic
I wonder if liberal theologians ever feel that in order to defend their beliefs they reduce it to vague abstracts that have no significant meaning beyond the metaphor itself. At what point do they sit back and realise that the notion they profess to revere has been deformed beyond all recognition?

Possibly right after the point they realise they could completely ditch the whole god thing and believe exactly the same thing.
I get the impression that very few of them actually believe in that vague abstraction that is pulled out whenever their beliefs are challenged, but it's just a way for them to rescue the concept from what is seen as an absurdity. The pyrrhic victory is in the intellectual sense, that they've devalued the concept to defend it, but I still get the impression that most of them still have a very classical conception of God.
Though that could be very off the mark, maybe they truly believe in that nebulous waffle though it doesn't really make much sense intellectually or emotionally.
